Gold Masonic Medallion: Dr. Arthur Smith, nationally recognized economist, gave this medallion to me in 1970. Dr. Smith was not a Mason and I have no knowledge of how or when he acquired it. He was a coin collector and had a wide and valuable collection. His challenge to me was to find its source, apparently he had made cursory and unsuccessful probes.
The medallion is 18-carat gold (assayed by Everts Jewelers, Dallas, Texas), weighs 1.2 ounces, and is approximately 50 millimeters in diameter. It is in perfect condition except for a slight tinge where the assay was made.
On one side of the medallion is what appear to be three persons of Mexican origin. The square and compass appears to the right of the figures, and the border is a depiction of Masonic tools of the trade. On the medallion is printed Ala Masoneria Contenente Americana (Masons of the American Continent).
On the other side of the medallion appear what seem to be three persons of United States origin. A Mexican National has told me that the man in the middle is the first president of Mexico, and the other two are Thomas
Jefferson and Woodrow Wilson. On the border are the tools of Masonry as we know them in the States. On this side of the medallion is printed Libertad Igualdad Fraternidad (Liberty Equality Fraternity). I am interested in determining the source and value, of course, of the medallion. All leads will be appreciated. Please see the attached photographs for pictorial review.

Q:To whom it may concern, I think that I understand what brockage is, but my understanding is that the two sides of the coin would be the same year, etc. I have a quarter that I think would be considered brockage but both sides are not the same year. One side is a 1981 quarter and the other side is a 1991 quarter. There are other differences also. I would like to know how this might have occurred and how much it might be worth.Thank you<katijade@hotmail.com>

Q: Q; Hello and thanx in advance for your help. I'm alittle confused on coins listed as having no mint mark. If lets = say that a 1953s or 1973s penny is listed as having no mint mark. If the = mark is missing then how do you know its a 1953s or 1973s thats mising = it mark. Did they not make a 1953, 1973 penny with no mark or must all =
Answer: Armand G, Here is your answer cause your e-mail address keeps getting returned with errors, The coins they are talking about are in proof sets. The proof coins are = only made in San Fransco with the "S" mint and if the proof coin has no = "S" mint it was missing. sorry for the delay in getting back to you, I hope this helps

Q:Hi, my name is Dave and I recently found a dime dated from 1969 and it's dark brown. I'm not sure if it's copper or not but I used a jewelry cleaning solution to see if it was just dirty and it's not. It basically just looks like an old penny but it's the same size and design as a dime. Have you ever heard of these? I tried checking as many sites as I could and not a single one had anything about this coin. I hope you can shed some light on this. <ProphetBD@webtv.net>

Q: I have a coin that I found ion my apartment. It has a story about Theodore Roosevelt and I want to know if it is worth money. It is from the year 1901-1909 <LILENZ@aol.com>

Q: Recently a friend of my fathers passed away. While going through his belongings I came across a large box set. It was called "The J.F.K. Commemorative set". When you open the box up, there is a large Bronze head approx. 5" x 3" of Kennedy's profile. On each side of the profile is a gold coin dated 1964 and each coin is placed in a 24karat gold filagree setting. Each gold setting also contains 5 rubies, 5 emeralds, and 5 saphires for a total of 10 precious stones. There is a paper of Authenticity and there were supposed to be only 2000 per state issued. The set is numbered 412 of 2000 for the state of Minnesota. I was curious if you've ever seen something like this and if so, how much it would be worth?
The apartment where I discovered it was full of antique things, everything from old bottles to old swords, etc. He had no family and he left everything to my father as they've known each other almost 50 years. We've been trying to get an idea of what some of this stuff is worth. I've been suprised at just how much some of the old bottles are worth and this J.F.K. Set is really beautiful but it's impossible to find out it's value anywhere. Our local coin dealer has never seen one and couldn't begin to tell us the value. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thank-you,<castle31@gotocrystal.net>

It appeared to be the same size, color, with the same design as all other '74 quarters BUT made out of a different material (a solf, lead-like material that can be bent). Thanks for your site.
From: Nick & Kim Wade
My husband and I have several jars full of misc. change and were considering turning them all in for cash. I have been slowing filtering thru as I would hate to put something back into circulation that may be worth more than it's stated value. Your site was very helpful.
