{Indexing Times}

It is important to keep abreast of major search engine and directory
site listing lead times when you are doing business on the Internet.
The nature of the Internet is such that these lead times can change
quickly. As a tool to help you work more efficiently, we will keep you
updated with our observations...

Yahoo! (http://www.yahoo.com): Indexing estimates are at four weeks. Yahoo! recategorized their help and company information pages and has improved their "New Addtions" page." You can peruse the new additions by day at http://www.yahoo.com/new

Infoseek (http://www.infoseek.com): The are not accepting submisisons via their “AddURL” feature until January 5, 1998. Submissions are still being taken via email until that time.

AltaVista (http://www.altavista.digital.com): All indications are that they are still indexing anywhere from two days to one week.

Excite (http://www.excite.com): Search engine indexing is now running over than two weeks. Currently not accepting site submissions for the Excite Directory.

Lycos (http://www.lycos.com): Three weeks for indexing. Remember that the Lycos spider uses the number of links that point to your site to determine relevancy. Sites with a high number of incoming links are considered more popular and are indexed at a higher priority than sites with fewer incoming links.

WebCrawler (http://www.webcrawler.com): Indexing is anywhere from three to four weeks.

Magellan (http://www.mckinley.com): They have received a minor facelift, but their "Editorial transition" period is committed to denying all submissions. Still no projected date for a policy change.

NorthernLight (http://www.northernlight.com): Indexing time is still about four weeks. Northernlight's dedicated awards page is at http://www.northernlight.com/docs/accolades.htm .

LinkStar (http://www.linkstar.com): Currently running at three hours.They recommend keeping your listing up-to-date by reviewing your e-Card at least once every six months

PlanetSearch (http://www.planetsearch.com): Remains steady at one to two weeks. On the keyword search results page, click on "Add Link" to quickly save a link to your Personal category on the Planetsearch home page.

Looksmart (http://www.looksmart.com): Indexing into the Looksmart directory is still between three and six weeks. Find out the best way to get your site added to the LookSmart directory at http://www.looksmart.com/h/info/submitfaq.html .

OpenText (http://index.opentext.net): Currently running at about four weeks. They have made some cosmetic changes. Add your site at http://index.opentext.net/main/submitURL.html .

HotBot (http://www.hotbot.com): Still indexing in under seven days. Keyword META tags are weighted higher than words in the text, but not as high as keywords in the title.
